The Story Behind the Shirt

The 2015/16 season marked the beginning of a new chapter in Manchester United's history, as Adidas returned as the club's official kit manufacturer for the first time since the 1991/92 campaign. The new partnership brought back the famous three stripes to Old Trafford, with a home shirt inspired by the club's traditional designs from the 1980s and early 1990s.

Under manager Louis van Gaal, Manchester United experienced a mixed campaign, finishing fifth in the Premier League and competing in both the UEFA Champions League and Europa League. The squad featured established stars such as Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata, Michael Carrick and David de Gea, alongside exciting young talents including Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.

Despite the challenges of the league campaign, Manchester United ended the season with a memorable FA Cup triumph. Facing Crystal Palace at Wembley on 21 May 2016, the Red Devils fell behind to a Jason Puncheon goal before Juan Mata equalised. With the match heading into extra time, Jesse Lingard scored a spectacular winning volley to secure a dramatic 2–1 victory and the club's 12th FA Cup title.

The season was also significant for the emergence of Marcus Rashford, who made an immediate impact after breaking into the first team in February 2016. His performances, alongside Anthony Martial's impressive debut campaign, offered supporters a glimpse of a promising new generation at Old Trafford.

Representing the return of Adidas, the emergence of new talents and Manchester United's first FA Cup triumph in 12 years, this 2015/16 home shirt is a memorable piece of Red Devils history.
